Student Internship
Job description
We are looking for a Student Intern who is going after a degree as a Marriage and Family therapist, or Licensed Professional Counselor.
At Core Values Counseling (CVC) our therapists see couples, individuals, families and children. We specialize in the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy and you will be trained by a Certified Gottman Therapist in this method as part of your on-boarding.
We are a training facility for therapists, both students and associates.
We also specialize in care for pastors, their families and others who are in ministry. You may get to participate in these events
Our group has weekly group consultations in which you would participate in, usually on Wed.
Our expectation is that after you have been with us about 3 months we would have you actively working with your own clients 8 to 12 hours a week. Our office is open Monday through Saturdays so you have flexibility in when you work with clients.
We are a teaching group and our owners were both certified teachers. That being said we start you off doing co-therapy and sitting in with other therapists so you can learn and see what you should do with clients. We don’t expect you to just start doing therapy after a day or two of orientation. We set you up for success. You will need to want to work with couples to be a part of our team because that is our main focus. You will do a lot of learning in other areas, and we encourage you to work on a secondary specialty as you develop your skills as a counselor. Our lead clinical supervisor is a Gottman trainer so you will get that training in our group.
We offer and financially support opportunities to grow in your specialty.
Our hope is that you will stay with us after graduation all the way to becoming a licensed therapist. We do teach new areas in therapy every month. The cycle lasts from about 3 to 4 years. So to get all the training possible you may want to stay with us 4 years or so.
Job details
Pay: you will be a 1099 employee and receive a percentage of money you bring in doing counseling. We do use a sliding scale for our clients especially with student interns. (After your first term with us and keeping a caseload of 10 client hours per week.)
Schedule
2 or 3 days a week, which will include Wed.
If interested email CoreValuesCounseling@gmail.com to set up an interview.
Protocols for the interview process are first that you send an email of interest with your Resume and why you are interested in joining our team. We also want you to take the CVI here which we use with all our clients so you can experience it first hand. Send some available dates and times that would work for a short phone interview.
