Spread the love

Every fall, when the pumpkin spice flavors come along, it seems like there are two kinds of people: People who LOVE pumpkin spice — and people who love to hate pumpkin spice. And that second group of people tends to love to make fun of the first group of people. If you like pumpkin spice, well, you’re ‘basic,’ boring, and lame. Ha!

Why do we love to scorn other peoples’ joy? What’s wrong with liking something that’s ‘mainstream’? Can we, for once, let go of this kind of petty judgement? Judgement does nobody any good — especially between partners. If your partner loves something, you don’t have to understand it, but you can support it. As long as what they’re loving isn’t inherently harmful — then why judge? Let people find joy and love what they love. Stay out of judgement and connect with them in their joy. Laugh with those who laugh! Just as we mourn with those who mourn, celebrating with your beloved when they’re delighted is an essential part of a healthy relationship.
