As we continue in a long-term relationship, year after year, it can be easy to fall into a very predictable rhythm. And there’s nothing wrong with that! We even have blogs touting the benefits of ritual. It’s healthy and important. But sometimes we forget how special a surprise can feel; even a tiny one.
Leaving a note for your partner to discover in their sock drawer; ordering dinner in without being asked because they had a busy day; bringing them their first cup of coffee in the morning…all of these can take just minutes on your end, but leave your partner warm and fuzzy for a whole day. What about buying them that cute pencil you saw in the checkout line at the grocery store? Or printing a picture of the two of you at Walgreens? All of these things can be small, but they add a jolt of love, delight, and smiles to your partners’ day, and when applied long term can add real warmth to your relationship.
Don’t forget about surprises…a little effort can go a long way. What are some ways you love to be surprised?
