Your Together Resolution

It’s a brand new year, and everyone + their mother is talking about their New Year’s Resolutions. January is prime time for goal setting, and whether you love it or loathe it, it’s a reality we’re all a part of. But as you face this new year and consider what your resolution might be, I have a challenge for you — no, it’s not about losing weight, or climbing a mountain, or reading a certain book.

It’s about your partner.

Have you ever thought about setting a resolution for your relationship?

It could be romantic: We resolve to go out on at least one date night every month.

It could be healing: We resolve to start couples counseling.

It could be affectionate: We resolve to have one long, six-second kiss every morning and night.

It could be practical: We resolve to eat at least one meal together every day.

We’re always so focused on self-improvement: making ourselves better, setting goals and devoting time and energy to them. But what if we were focused on relational improvement?

What resolution can you set, as a couple, that will help you grow closer together in 2019? It can be simple or grand, as long as (like any goal) it’s SMART: Specific (no generalities like “love each other more”), Measurable (how will you know if you accomplish it?), Attainable (be realistic with your own heart and your partner’s), Relevant (make sure it matters to both of you!), and Time-bound (what schedule will you set this by? Daily, weekly, monthly?). Just like with any career or health goal, you can build your relational resolution with these concepts and see success.

I’d love to hear what you decide on — reply to this email and let me know.

And Happy 2019!
