Don’t Forget To Be Present!

I don’t know about you, but often I get lost in my thoughts — either about my future, and what’s about to happen, or something in my past. Sometimes I’m so distracted that I miss the present moment! It slips right by me, unnoticed, never to be seen again. A lot of times, I’ve found, this kind of distraction for me stems from one problematic source: my phone.

Recently I read a book: How To Break Up With Your Phone. In this little book by Catherine Price, she lists out all the ways our phones and technology in general robs us of our ability to be present — and I couldn’t agree more. In fact, recently I took the advice she gives in the book, and I turned off all my notifications…even the the ones for text messages! It’s changed the way I practice therapy, and it’s changed the way I am with my family. Don’t get me wrong, I have lots of room for improvement, but with this one simple change, I am SO much more present!

How about you? What will it take to really be present and live in the moment — rather than be always ruled by what you’ve missed, or are about to miss?
